Revision: June 1st, 2001
The 31st of December 1997 I feel very bloated and nauseas after drinking
champagne and eating some slices of cake. During my sleep I wake up in the
middle of the night and have to run to the toilet: Vomitting and burping the
entire night. A nice way to start a new year (1998). The following days the
symptoms alleviate. A couple of weeks later all these events are repeated.
Vomitting and burping and no sleep. This cycle repeats until my mother (who
got really worried) sends me to the physician.
The physician thinks it must be an ulcer in my stomach and he gives me prepulsid
for that. Prepulsid accelerates the flow of the food through the stomach and
intestines. The symptoms get a little better, but I keep loosing weight. Another
symptom is introduced: Constant tiredness. When I got the University for a
couple of hours (two classes), I come back home to rest on the couch for the
rest of the day.
After a couple of months my physician sends me to an internist specialized
in dealing with intestinal problems. After many investigations (internal and
external), it shows I have an inflammated small and large intestine. I think:
That's nice.. Now we finally know what's wrong with me. Some antibiotics should
help really soon and I can get on with my life. Some time later, the internist
tells me the inflammation is chronic. It will stay there for the rest of your
life: Crohn's disease and maybe also Colitis Ulcerosa. It's not really clear
yet. I couldn't really imagine what a chronic disease ment.
Two and a half years later I knew exactly what a chronic disease ment. I had
had three prednison treatments. Every time the prednison made me feel relatively
good in a couple of weeks after the initial admission. In several months the
dosage is reduced. Then, when I stop using the prednison it would take a couple
of months and all the symptoms would return.
In October 2000 I felt really misserable. I noticed the inflammation was returning
once more and my hope of a healthy future was virtually gone. Socially I was
a wreck, my studies weren't progressing anymore. At that time I felt really
bad and depressed. I decided to start looking for alternatives. I couldn't
handle another prednison treatment once more. After many, many hours behind
my computer screens (dualhead 21 inch monitors) I found a page, written my
David Gregg, Ph.D. David has worked in a chemistry lab after he graduated
(Chemistry Ph.D). He has been investigating the relation between food and
healtness and behaviour. Right now he is retired. In 1995 he got to know a
female friend, who was suffering from Crohn's disease for many years. What
he did next was very revolutionary.
He managed to find a substance (DMSO) that completely healed her Crohn's disease.
The theory behind it is a bit complex. It is described in this article. I
didn't have to read this twice. I had a new goal in my life: I had to get
this DMSO and heal myself. So that's what I did. I managed to order the DMSO
from the USA. My internist didn't want to prescribe it because he wasn't certain
of the effectiveness. It took a month to get the DMSO. I was thrilled when
I saw the DMSO bottle in front of me. This would be the end to all my problems.
I started using it. A week before that I had already started the SCDiet.
My weight started to stabilise and I definitely had less gas in my stomach
and intestines. Three times a day I applied the DMSO to my abdomen. By mixing
in a small amount of water, the itching was reduced. Slowy, I started to feel
better and better and I started to regain my energy. Very soon I started to
gain weight again (I was weighing about 65kg back then, lenght: 1.85 meter).
I started to put on weight at an impressive rate of almost one kilo every
week. I concluded the DMSO was starting to heal me. At that time I was still
using the SCDiet, because I thought it did help a bit.
In Januari 2001 I felt perfect. I hadn't felt so energetic and vital in years.
My internist was really amazed to so me in such health. Even more when my
blood testresults showed no deviations anymore. If you'd read my
blood test result, you would think I was a completely healthy person.
There was no increase in the amount of white bloodcells, my hemoglobin level
was perfect, no more sedimentation in the blood also. I concluded again that
the DMSO was doing this. My weight was now once again a healthy
72 kilo's. The second week of January I went to a specialized clinic in
Amsterdam to get the results of my allergy tests. You can read the rest of
my story in my diary
and my book revriews in which I also incorporate
a progress report.
In short:

Below, you can see me as of October, 27th 2001, weighing 73 kilo's:
