I notice this message was cross-posted to lots of people who might be in the know about cow juice and thought I might as well post a serious question I've been puzzling with for weeks. I use and sell licorice extracts for the treatment of chronic fatique associated with low blood pressure and/or adrenal insufficiency, and for the chemoprevention of cancer. These are potent extracts that you will not find on any health food store shelf. They are so potent in fact they their use could cause serious problems in some people who take too much. Hince, we have made ever effort to keep the dose down to the lowest level possible to avoid any ill effects and still be effective for fatigue and cancer prevention. We have found that if we desolve small doses of licorice into to 500 ml of whole milk, the ead results makes all the difference in the world. It seems that the whole milk potentiates the licorice extract by at least 200-500%. Some of us believe that it is the fat in the whole milk which is slowing down the gastric emptying rate and allowing the licorice to be metabolized before it is washed through the system. However, since licorice is metabolized by a special bacteria in the intestinal flora called Eubacterium sp., other of us believe that whole milk is stimulating or in some way effecting the growth of Eubacterium sp, which in turn, metabolizes the licorice. We have another who believes milk contains sodium and other ingredients which compliments the licorice treatment. We ahve also found one reference indicating that the use of licorice in milk is not a new idea. According to this old book, 2,000 years ago, tribesmen in the Middle East were using licorice mixed with mares milk to treat the fatigue of heat exhaustion. I don't have any idea how hard it is to milk a mare, or why they would choose mare's milk in the first place, but it sounds like these people must have derived a most positive benefit from the mixture, otherwise why milk a horse? Anybody got any ideas that might bring us closer to finding out with licorice extracst work so much better in whole milk? Please email me because I might miss your message due to all the newsgroups.
