Apnea
Thursday, October 23 2003 - Dossier: General
Apnea
The Greek word ''apnea'' literally means ''without breath.'' People with untreated sleep apnea stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep, sometimes hundreds of times during the night and often for a minute or longer. This has devastating effects on their health, as people can't recover during their sleep like healthy people do. They wake up feeling tired, as they never reached the REM (rapid eye movement) sleep.
An acquintance suffers from apnea (apneu in Dutch) and I got the hunch that a low-carb diet might be helpful. After a short search on the web, it seems to be true.
Check this link for several testimonials of people curing their apnea with a low-carb diet. My person low-carb diet, which is probably the healthiest overall, is the Homo Optimus Diet. Check www.newtreatments.org for many references to the Homo Optimus Diet and in special the links section at www.newtreatments.org/sites
